Wukong
Wukong is the central character of Journey to the West, a stone monkey born from a stone egg on Flower Fruit Mountain, and a well-known hero in Chinese mythology.
He studied under Subhuti, learning seventy-two transformations and the somersault cloud, among other supernatural powers. He stormed the Dragon Palace to steal the Golden Cudgel, caused havoc in the Underworld to alter the Book of Life and Death, and proclaimed himself "Great Sage Equal to Heaven." After his rampage in Heaven, he was imprisoned under the Five Elements Mountain by the Buddha for five hundred years. Later, enlightened by Guanyin, he became a disciple of Tang Sanzang, protecting him on his journey to the West to retrieve Buddhist scriptures. Along the way, he subdued demons and monsters, enduring eighty-one tribulations, ultimately becoming the "Victorious Fighting Buddha." He is intelligent, resourceful, and hates evil, yet also possesses a mischievous and rebellious streak. He embodies both an extreme pursuit of freedom and unwavering loyalty to his master. His image has long been deeply ingrained in Chinese culture, becoming a symbol of courage, justice, and the spirit of resistance.
